Eligibility Criteria

The Commonwealth Vocational University (CVU) is a 21st Century new age learning institution providing specialist knowledge and quality education programmes in a varied range of disciplines. The University has set up different schools offering courses in chosen area of study.

1.Foundation Studies Programme

  1. from the Tonga School Leaving Certificate (TSLC): or total of at least 200 marks in four subjects one of which must be English with the marks in English being not less than 50; or
  2. from another examination approved by the Senate; or
  3. Admission with standing.

2. Certificate Courses

Candidate shall be eligible for a Certificate Course in which a Certificate Course is offered if they have

  1. Obtained the appropriate University Foundation Certificate, or
  2. Passed the Tonga Form Seven Examination normally with an aggregate of of least 250 marks in 4 subjects with a minimum of 50%in English,
  3. Admission with Standing for Certificate requires, either
    A. At least a pass in the Tonga Secondary Leaving Certificate Examination (Form 6) or equivalent with 50% in English, and at least 2 years of relevant work experience, or
    B. The applicant be at least 20 years of age, and hove relevant work experience.

3. Diploma Programmes

Candidate shall be eligible for a Diploma Programme in which a Diploma Programme is offered if they have

  1. Obtained the appropriate University Foundation Certificate, or
  2. Passed the Tonga Form Seven examination normally with on aggregate of of least 250 marks in 4 subjects with o minimum of 50% in English, or
  3. Passed only examination deemed by the University to be equivalent to the University Foundation Education Certificate, or obtained the University Entrance Certificate, or
  4. Admission with Standing for a Diploma entry requires, either:
  5. A . At least a pass in the Tonga School Leaving Certificate Examination or equivalent with 50% in English, and at least 2 years of relevant work experience, or
    B . The applicant be at least 20 years of age, and have relevant work experience.

4. Bachelor's Degrees

Candidates shall be eligible for a Bachelor Degree in which a Bachelor Degree is offered if they have

  1. Passed the University Foundation programme, or
  2. Passed the Tonga Form Seven Examination, normally with an aggregate of at least 250 marks in 4 subjects with a minimum of 50% in English, or
  3. Passed any examination deemed by the University to be equivalent to the University Foundation programme,
  4. Admission with Standing for a Bachelor Degree programme entry requires, either:
  5. A . At least a pass in the Tonga School Leaving Certificate Examination (Form 6) or equivalent with 50% in English, and at least 2 years of relevant work experience, or
    B . The applicant be at least 20 years of age, and have relevant work experience.

5. Master Degree

6. Admission with Standing/Mature Entry

  1. Persons who are not eligible to be admitted under the eligibility provisions of any progrommegnay granted permission by the Senate to enrol for that programme as 'Admission with Standing'.
  2. In coming to a decision on any applicant for 'Admission with Standing' the Senate shall take into account the person's age, academic background, the nature of the employment or occupation in which sheik has been engaged, the programme applied for, and the likelihood of her/him being able to satisfy the requirements of the programme in which she/he seeks to enrol.
  3. The Senate may also require the person to pass such examinations or tests as it may prescribe as a prerequisite for any such enrolment.
